What Should I Do If I Receive a Letter from HMRC?

How to handle HMRC letters and when to involve us

If you receive a letter from HMRC, don’t panic — but it’s important to take it seriously and act quickly.

🧾 Step 1: Check Your PAYE Payments

Most HMRC letters relate to PAYE. Make sure all payments are up to date by:

  • Logging in to your company’s HMRC Business Tax Account

  • Reviewing your PAYE payment history

  • Comparing it to your payroll reports

If you spot anything missing or unclear and need help, just let us know.

Please note: As paying PAYE is the employer’s legal responsibility, we may charge a small fee if we need to investigate missing payments on your behalf.

✉️ Step 2: Forward the Letter to Us

If the letter isn’t about a missed payment — or if you’re unsure what it’s referring to — please forward a copy to:

📧 support@intelligentpayroll.co.uk

We’ll review it and let you know what (if anything) needs to be done next.

We’re always happy to help you make sense of HMRC communications — just get in touch as soon as possible so we can support you effectively.
