What Happens If I Miss the Payroll Input Deadline?
What to expect if payroll data is sent late and how to minimise delays
At Intelligent Payroll, we’re more flexible than most traditional payroll bureaus — but there are still important timelines we follow to ensure payroll is processed accurately and on time.
⏰ Our Commitment (and Yours)
We can only guarantee that payroll will be submitted to HMRC on or before your payment date if you send the required payroll data on time, as agreed in our SLA (Service Level Agreement).
🛠️ If You're Running Late
If you're going to be delayed:
-
Let us know as soon as possible by emailing support@intelligentpayroll.co.uk
-
In most cases, we’re happy to rearrange our schedule to accommodate
-
If the data is only slightly late, it’s unlikely to cause an issue
-
If submissions are consistently late, we’ll reach out to review the process and agree on improvements
🚨 Important to Know
If data is significantly late and:
-
We haven’t been informed
-
We’re unable to reach you
…we may escalate this as a breach of communication responsibility. This could risk a late submission to HMRC and associated penalties.
✅ Best Practice
-
Aim to submit your payroll inputs at least 2 working days before your payment date
-
Use your standard input format to avoid delays
-
Notify us early if there are any exceptional delays expected
We’re here to support you — and a little proactive notice goes a long way in keeping things running smoothly.
